STRATEGY

Background:

- In Vietnam, Christmas is not a primary commercial season like Tết and faces relatively lower category competition. However, it has rapidly become a culturally expressive moment among urban youth, driven by social sharing and gifting rituals.

- While everyday food brands rarely own this occasion, young consumers increasingly seek emotional warmth during the cooler December period — with “something to hug” emerging as a recurring social sentiment.

- This shift created an opportunity to translate emotional demand into brand action.

Brand Opportunity: After four consecutive years of Christmas activations, Jollibee had established a seasonal presence — but not always breakthrough impact. The challenge was differentiation: How could Jollibee move beyond routine promotion and create a culturally resonant Christmas moment that strengthens brand love?

Business Objective:

Primary: Strengthen brand affinity by reinforcing Jollibee’s emotional relevance during Christmas.

Secondary: Drive incremental sales and transactions during the festive window.

Communication Objective: Bring Jollibee’s “Joy of Eating” to life by making joy tangible — transforming Christmas into a warm, shareable experience that connects food with emotional comfort.

Strategic Choice: Christmas is a gifting occasion. Jollibee strategically used gifting as the emotional trigger by introducing a limited-edition reindeer plush bundled with meals. The plush served as a physical symbol of joy — turning a promotion into a meaningful festive gift. By aligning social gifting behaviour with a collectible item, the campaign converted seasonal engagement into brand affinity and commercial impact within a short festive window.

INSIGHT

Seasonal Urgency: Christmas is a short, emotionally charged window. The limited-time context naturally accelerates decision-making and encourages immediate participation.

Limited-Quantity Gifting Mechanism: By bundling a limited-edition plush with meal purchases, the campaign turned a festive gift into a high-urgency trigger. Scarcity transformed social interest into fast in-store action.

Social FOMO Effect: As the plush became highly visible on social feeds, it quickly evolved into “the Christmas item to have". Scarcity combined with visibility amplified fear of missing out, accelerating conversion.

Social Twist – Funny & Shareable : The campaign embraced a light, humorous tone that invited user-generated content, memes, and remix culture — fuelling organic spread beyond paid media.

CREATIVE IDEA

Channel Approach

- The campaign was social-first, not ad-heavy. Instead of running CPC or reach campaigns, we selectively invested in paid KOLs and high-engagement deal communities to spark real conversations.

- Owned channels launched the story, Broadcasting. While earned media amplified it organically — making the reindeer feel culturally discovered, not overly commercial.

Momentum Design: Orchestrate multiple social trend waves rather than a single launch peak

- Wave 1 – Launch Awareness: “Christmas Is Here” => Seasonal announcements spark clearly, fast, short-lived attention—Urgency accelerates initial buzz.

- Wave 2 – Creative Remix: “My Reindeer, My Version” => Users personalize reindeers by adding scarves and accessories because their ownership encourages self-expression

- Wave 3 – Playful Expansion: “The Secret Reindeers” => The production imperfections become entertainment; users parody these reindeers, and they create humour and irony to sustain conversation.

Business Role: Use creativity to sustain attention and repeatedly drive store visits.

By leveraging all online communication channels and designing the Reindeer as an open-ended social object, the campaign transformed a seasonal promotion into a multi-wave social trend—where awareness, creativity, and humor continuously reinforced both engagement and commerce.

CONNECTION PLAN

To convert festive anticipation into brand affinity — and ultimately store visits — Jollibee deliberately avoided hard-sell tactics.Instead, the brand built a social-to-store ecosystem where the reindeer gift acted as the emotional trigger, consistently reinforcing the “Joy of Eating” positioning.

1. Early Teasing

– Create Desire Before the launch, Jollibee introduced the reindeer as a limited Christmas collectible — not a promotion. By separating emotional build-up from transactional messaging, the brand created desire first. Anticipation formed organically, positioning the gift as culturally relevant rather than commercially pushed.

2. Employees as Credible Brand Advocates

Store employees became the first wave of storytellers. Authentic unboxing videos and in-store excitement shared on TikTok created believable social proof. This approach strengthened brand warmth and relatability — key to reinforcing joyful shared moments.

3. Store as the Place Where Joy Happens

In-store displays elevated the reindeer from a freebie to a festive symbol. The restaurant was positioned not just as a place to eat, but as the place where joy could be claimed and shared — directly linking the gift to the eating experience.

4. A Self-Reinforcing Social Loop

The campaign engineered a continuous cycle: Tease → Discover → Purchase → Share → Renewed FOMO. Without heavy paid reach or aggressive calls-to-action, this loop sustained cultural relevance. Emotional engagement came first — and commerce followed naturally.
