STRATEGY

3.7 million Vietnamese women get pregnant every year. Yet 60% of these pregnancies are unintended, and nearly 1.7 million end in abortion – placing Vietnam second in the world for abortion rates. Behind these statistics lies a harsh reality: severe, lasting impacts on a woman’s physical health, mental well-being, and her sacred calling to motherhood.

As a champion for women's health, Organon chose not to look away. Instead, we are leading the way in public-private collaboration by partnering with the Vietnam Population Authority. We transform institutional efforts into a nationwide movement, driven by a community-first commitment to educate and protect the younger generations.

The deeper challenge was not only medical – it was cultural. Contraception remains a taboo topic, shrouded in silence. Sex education is still limited in high schools, parents avoid the conversation, and young people hesitate to share for fear of judgement. While sexually suggestive content is widely accessible online, real and meaningful conversations about contraception remain absent.

To address this, Organon launched Yêu Thong Thả with a clear mission: to reframe how contraception is discussed in society, shifting it from a taboo subject into an open, trusted conversation. This is executed through a dedicated forum where young people can finally speak up and access verified knowledge, bridging the gap in a world where information is everywhere, but complete and correct guidance is rare.

At the heart of this movement is a fundamental belief: women do not reject motherhood; they demand the right to choose its timing and take full control of their own bodies. At the core of this strategy, Thong Thả Show was introduced as a platform to create safe spaces for dialogue, bringing together young people, experts, and public voices to make contraception more approachable and free from judgement.

Crucially, the programme does not promote sexual activity; instead, it creates a space where young people can gain a complete and correct understanding directly from healthcare professionals to truly master their own lives. But conversation alone was not enough.

To drive societal acceptance at scale, World Contraception Day became the movement’s nationwide participation layer, transforming individual voices into visible public support and normalising the topic through collective action.

Yêu Thong Thả is not a one-time campaign but a sustained effort starting from 2024 to drive cultural change. This strategy is designed as a 5-year journey: from opening conversations to advancing modern contraceptive literacy through expert-led guidance, ensuring young women receive verified medical facts from healthcare professionals, to ultimately reduce unintended pregnancies and improve national population quality. Organon remains committed to expanding this platform, continuously creating accessible and trusted spaces where young women can learn, speak, and make informed decisions about their reproductive health.

INSIGHT

In Vietnam, a culture deeply shaped by Confucian values, conversations about sex and contraception remain among the most sensitive topics. For young women, openly discussing contraception can easily trigger labels such as “immoral” or “inappropriate” - stereotypes no one wants to carry. This creates a vicious cycle: silence leads to misinformation, misinformation leads to avoidance, and avoidance pushes the topic back into silence. Reproductive health is still taught largely through theory, with little connection to real-life situations, while young people are entering relationships and becoming sexually active earlier than ever. This reveals the core human insight: For many young Vietnamese women, contraception is not rejected as a medical solution, but is branded as a moral taboo. It is unfairly labeled as "shameful" or "indecent," forcing a life-saving conversation into the shadows. Because the topic is not socially accepted, young women are shamed into silence, and by the time they feel safe enough to ask for the truth, the risk has already happened.

CREATIVE IDEA

Thong Thả Show reimagined contraception through a reaction-show format: bringing real interview street opinions into open debate with students, KOLs, and healthcare professionals. By unpacking misconceptions in real time, difficult conversations became more relatable, less intimidating, and easier for young women to engage with. At its core, the idea gave young women the right to speak and the right to know – turning private doubts into open, socially accepted conversations and replacing misinformation with verified, professional medical truths. To move from conversation to action, the campaign introduced the World Contraception Day Digital Heat Map - a nationwide participation platform where each “Yes” lit up the map and triggered a real donation. Each click transformed support into tangible impact, helping raise the donation to improve women’s access to reproductive healthcare, trusted information, and essential support services, especially for underserved women in remote communities across Vietnam. Thong Thả Show gave women a voice and a forum to get the right information and to make the right decisions. World Contraception Day gave that voice a nation behind it.

CONNECTION PLAN

Yêu Thong Thả made strategic use of a multi-layered digital channel mix, with each channel serving a distinct role in the communication journey.

At the awareness stage, to sustain discussion and encourage peer-to-peer engagement, the campaign activated university networks and youth communities, where the topic could be shared in a more personal and socially acceptable way. These channels helped turn a national issue into something locally relevant and easier to discuss. KOLs and youth-facing creators such as Tizi Đích Lép, Sabrina Uyên Lưu, and Kiều Anh helped make the topic more visible and relatable to young audiences. Their role was to reduce distance and social awkwardness, allowing contraception to enter Gen Z's culture through familiar and trusted voices. To normalize the conversation at scale, the campaign partnered with high-traffic Facebook and TikTok community platforms, including Thỏ Bảy Màu and Xanh Mượt. These channels embedded the topic into mainstream digital behavior, helping move contraception from a private concern into a visible public conversation.

To strengthen trust and accessibility, Organon also collaborated with major pharmaceutical retail chains such as Pharmacity, transforming their digital platforms into accessible hubs for verified reproductive health information. This ensured that communication was not only wide-reaching but also useful and action-oriented. However, creating spaces for women to speak was only the first step. To reach women beyond urban centers, especially those in remote and underserved communities, the movement needed more than access; it needed a collective voice. We mobilized communities, partners, and public voices nationwide to amplify individual conversations into a movement that reached those often left unheard. A credibility layer was built through PR articles on top-tier publishers such as Thanh Niên and Dân Trí. At the same time, healthcare professionals on TikTok delivered expert-led, easy-to-understand content that reinforced trust. At the same time, community pages and KOLs, including Lê Thụy, Vừng, Insight Mất Lòng, Cháo Hành Miễn Phí, and Top Comments, helped drive mass participation and social endorsement.

All channels were then funnelled into one unified call-to-action: the Digital Heat Map. By centralising traffic into a single participatory platform, the campaign turned fragmented attention into a visible, collective movement.
