STRATEGY
A. Brand Background & Challenge
After 20 years in Vietnam, Jollibee Vietnam is one of the most loved QSR brands. Yet, maturity created new strategic pressure.
1. Escalating Competition: The QSR battlefield has shifted from product to cultural relevance. KFC activated youth through large-scale music festivals. Starbucks launched music-driven brand experiences. McDonald's tapped Gen Z culture with ambassadors like Neko Lê. Music events became the dominant format in 2025—but were also overused and predictable.
2. Perception Gap with Gen Z: Jollibee is deeply loved but often seen as a “childhood brand"—nostalgic, not trend-leading. The brand needed a large-scale activation to reconnect with youth—without becoming “just another concert.”
3. Fragmented Brand Love: Jollibee had strong emotional equity across families, students, and young adults—but lacked a single unifying national moment. After 20 years, the brand needed more than celebration. It needed a cultural-scale expression of “Joy for Every Generation.”
B. Marketing Objectives
- Build national brand affinity
- Strengthen brand love across generations
- Reinforce Top-of-Mind in a competitive QSR market
C. Communication Objectives
- Consumers: Deepen emotional connection and drive excitement through shared stories, music, and product joy.
- Business Partners & Government: Reaffirm long-term commitment and growth in Vietnam.
- Press: Position the 20-year journey as a culturally relevant success story.
- Employees: Celebrate shared achievements and inspire pride.
D. Strategic Choice:
Jollibee launched a flagship anniversary event — framed not as a “concert,” but as a national Joy Celebration Day — amplified by PR and social media. The event played 3 strategic roles:
- Physical Experience → Create collective emotional energy.
- Social Content Factory → Generate pre-, during-, and post-event amplification.
- PR Milestone → Reassert cultural relevance and QSR leadership. Event = Core Touchpoint.Social = Amplifier.
Together, they transformed a 20-year milestone into a nationwide cultural moment.

CREATIVE IDEA
Concept: "The Jolly Day – Jollibee’s 20th Birthday Party”
In a year saturated with branded concerts, “concert” had become predictable and overused. Instead of launching another music show, Jollibee Vietnam reframed its 20-year milestone as something universally understood and emotionally powerful: a birthday party. By turning the event into “Jollibee’s 20th Birthday,” the brand leveraged its strong birthday service equity—making the concept authentic, relevant, and culturally natural. A birthday is: A universal social ritual, A moment of gathering & Inherently joyful and shareable. This humanized the brand and unlocked one simple narrative: “Spread The Joy – Celebrate Jollibee’s 20th Birthday Together.” It was no longer a concert. It was a party everyone was invited to.
1. Artist-Driven Amplification
- Line-up announcements were executed as birthday invitations, not traditional reveals.
- Artists received symbolic birthday invites.
- Social posts teased playful interactions and hints.
- Fans speculated and amplified organically. The multi-generational lineup reinforced “Joy for Every Generation": Mỹ Tâm, Xuân Nghi, Hoàng Dũng – 8x–9x icon Double2T, Dj Mie – Gen Z voice, Tân Binh Toàn Năng
– Emerging youth group. Each reveal activated fandom communities as amplification engines.
2. Check-in & UGC Amplification
The birthday format unlocked socially native mechanics:
- Ticket = Birthday Invitation: Participation felt personal and exclusive.
- Social Mini Games: Fans shared birthday wishes, tagged their “party squad,” and used campaign hashtags to unlock rewards.
- Custom Sticker Pack: Jollibee birthday stickers boosted organic engagement across Facebook and Messenger.
- Childhood Memory Activation: Fans shared childhood memories on Threads for a chance to receive surprise invitations — turning nostalgia into social pride.
- Real-Time Messenger Interaction: Group chats dropped hints and surprises, creating intimacy at scale.
Strategic Impact: By shifting from “concert” to “birthday party,” Jollibee:
- Escaped the overused concert narrative
- Leveraged an authentic brand asset
- Humanized a 20-year milestone
- Designed a format built for social sharing
The result was not just a music event — but a culturally resonant celebration people felt personally invited to join.
CONNECTION PLAN
Jollibee 20th Anniversary: A Journey of Joy & Responsibility
To celebrate Jollibee’s 20-year milestone in Vietnam, we executed a high-impact IMC strategy that transcended a traditional brand anniversary. The campaign was engineered through a 3-phase O2O (Online-to-Offline) ecosystem, strategically balancing emotional peak moments with rapid social responsiveness.
Phase 1: TEASING & CONNECT
The campaign ignited with a "Mystery Birthday" concept to spark national intrigue. On Digital platforms (Facebook, TikTok, Threads), we leveraged a tiered influencer strategy, seeding cryptic invitations to top KOLs to trigger a massive FOMO effect among Gen Z and young families. Simultaneously, Offline awareness was solidified through radius-targeted elevator ads and digital frames in high-traffic coffee shops across HCMC. This synchronized approach ensured that the "20 Years of Joy" message was unavoidable, both on-screen and on the street.
Phase 2: D-Day As the campaign reached its peak, we faced a shift in public sentiment regarding large-scale concerts during a period of natural disasters.
Utilizing Social Listening (Buzzmetrics), Jollibee demonstrated elite brand agility. We reframed the narrative from a mere spectacle to a "Responsible Celebration" by proactively donating 1 billion VND to the Vietnam Fatherland Front for storm relief. This strategic pivot, amplified via PR and Owned Channels, successfully converted potential backlash into brand respect. On D-Day, the emotional energy of 15,000 attendees was captured through real-time TikTok updates and Facebook Live, creating an amplification loop that scaled the celebration nationwide while maintaining a tone of social empathy.
Phase 3: AMPLIFY
Post-event, the focus shifted from "The Party" to "The Journey." We sustained the buzz through cinematic recap videos and UGC (User-Generated Content) compilations that highlighted emotional fan stories over the past two decades. PR acted as a credibility multiplier, cementing Jollibee’s reputation not just as a fast-food giant but as a community-centric brand committed to Vietnam’s future.
